Entry qualification

High school / secondary education (or higher) Eligibility for International Students • Residing in Japan: Must have a valid Japanese residency status. • Residing Outside Japan: Must be able to obtain a “Student” residency status by the time of admission. Academic Requirements • Completion of 12 years of schooling: o In Japan or abroad by September 19, 2024. o With university entrance qualifications. o With a maximum of 3 years of enrollment in Japanese elementary, junior high, or high schools. • Equivalent Qualifications: Recognized by our university as equivalent to the above. • 11 Years of Schooling (in Home Country): o May apply after completing a preparatory course designated by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. o Or by completing a high school course in a foreign country equivalent to the Japanese Ministry’s designation. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Japanese. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. You must take the original entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university.

Language requirements

English The following notes refer only to those students who choose to submit their English proficiency test score except for graduates of English speaking high schools or international schools. EIKEN CSE – 2150 GTEC 4 skills(Achieved before March 2023) – 1118 GTEC 4 skills(Achieved after April 2023) – 1099 TEAP (4 skills) – 282 TEAP CBT – 540 TOEFL iBT – 62 Cambridge Assessment English – 156 TOEIC L&R – 710 TOEIC L&R,S&W – 1430 IELTS – 5.0 The English proficiency test scores should be from the tests taken from April 2022 or later. Official score certificate is required. For the TOEIC L&R/S&W*, S&W score should be multiplied by 2.5 and added to the L&R score. GTEC assessment version and TOEFL ITP are not accepted. Only IELTS “Academic” test is accepted. TOEFL iBT “Test Date” score is accepted (not the “My Best” score)

Other requirements

A motivation letter must be added to your application. (1) Those whose status of residence is “Temporary Visitor” are not eligible to apply. (2) Incomplete applications will not be accepted. (3) The admission fee exemption is not applicable if the “Admission Fee Exemption Application” is not submitted at the time of application. (4) The application fee and submitted application documents are not refundable for any reason. (5) If you have a disability or illness that requires special consideration when taking the examination, please be sure to consult with us at least one month prior to the start of the application period. (6) Since communication regarding the entrance examination is mainly conducted by e-mail, please be sure to set up your e-mail settings so that you can receive e-mails sent from “@kufs.ac.jp”. Overview

Be a Changemaker: for communities, for economies, and for global peace and development

The Global Studies program features a unique all-English social science curriculum. You’ll not only engage with global issues; you’ll apply what you’ve learned to help solve real-world problems. In class, students learn interactively, with group discussions and other collaborative activities with fellow students from around the world. You’ll choose a study area, such as Sustainability and International Cooperation, Global Business and Economics, and Digital Transformation and Change Leadership, which you’ll explore through courses and intensive seminars. Mastery of multiple languages and digital technology will further your development as Changemakers, and you’ll engage with communities in Japan and overseas to strengthen efforts to achieve sustainable development and global peace.

Programme structure

1. Serve and engage with the local community in Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital, and with the global community

• Students become Changemakers for a better world by applying what they learn about sustainability and international cooperation, global business and economics, and digital transformation and change leadership to help address community issues.

2. Master global topics and skills, ALL in ENGLISH, with classmates from around the world

• Conduct lively debates, work side by side with students from all over the world on projects, and acquire world-class knowledge in international management, Model United Nations, digital literacy, and the SDGs. All in English!

3. Learn from accomplished international faculty who share their diverse expertise and experience

• Diverse and caring faculty members from Asia, Europe and the Americas share their academic expertise and professional experience working with leading international organizations and major global businesses. The community-engaged, experiential learning model connects theory with practical learning and the “real world”. Come learn and make change at the Department of Global Studies!.

Career opportunities

After Graduation

Based on their global knowledge and competencies, KUFS students can seek employment in a broad range of fields. Many students with business and economics majors seek positions with multinational enterprises. Students who have majored in sustainability and international cooperation will often pursue positions in government, NPOs and civil society, or will continue to graduate school and aim for careers with international organizations. Many of our students will work internationally.
